This major refurbishment of Hassell’s 1970s icon repositions the arts complex to respond to changes brought about by the redevelopment taking place in the precinct. The Hassell (now Baukultur) team’s intention has been to build on the legacy of the Adelaide Festival Centre, respecting its illustrious history while also charting its future as a vibrant, contemporary and engaging place to experience the arts – and the city.

Led by former Hassell (now Baukultur) Principal Chris Watkins, it is a place that is dear to our hearts – its lineage can be traced back through former Hassell Managing Director and project designer John Morphett AM OBE to the Bauhaus, one of the sources of inspiration for our practice
